Ms. Chan Cheng Suk-lan, Assistant Director of the Digital Policy Office, stated that the competition serves as a catalyst and platform for young people to collaborate and share knowledge.

Prof. Hu Haibo, Associate Head of the Department of EEE at PolyU and Director of RCPST stated that the university’s BSc (Hons) in Information Security is one of the few cybersecurity undergraduate programmes in Hong Kong that receives funding from the University Grants Committee (UGC).

In today’s digital age, the growing prevalence of cyber threats has made cybersecurity a critical pillar of societal stability and development. This year, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has once again partnered with the CTF NuttyShell team (under the Department of EEE) and RCPST to host the “PolyU x NuttyShell CTF Competition 2025.” The event is supported by the Digital Policy Office and leading industry players including Check Point, OpenText, and Keysight. The initiative aims to bridge academia and industry, while equipping Hong Kong’s next generation of cybersecurity professionals with practical, hands-on experience.

This year’s competition saw unprecedented enthusiasm, drawing a record 126 teams from local secondary schools, sub-degree institutions, and undergraduate programs. Speaking at the awards ceremony, PolyU Vice President (Education) Prof. Wong Kwok-yin praised the participants’ dedication:

“Today we celebrate not only the winners, but also the relentless pursuit of knowledge, resilience, and innovation in the field of cybersecurity. This competition fosters dialogue between academia and industry, and empowers our youth to tackle digital vulnerabilities and safeguard our cyber world.”

Ms. Chan Cheng Suk-lan, Assistant Director of the Digital Policy Office, commended PolyU and NuttyShell for their contributions to local cybersecurity education:

“This competition serves as a catalyst for collaboration and knowledge-sharing among young people. It plays a vital role in developing cybersecurity talent and advancing Hong Kong’s vision to become a global innovation and technology hub.”

PolyU’s Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering (EEE) continues to position itself as a cradle for future cybersecurity experts. Associate Head of EEE, Director of RCPST Prof. Hu Haibo highlighted the department’s BSc (Hons) in Information Security — one of the few cybersecurity degree programs in Hong Kong funded by the University Grants Committee:

“Our graduates have become technical leaders and key contributors across banking, finance, healthcare, and government sectors. The demand for cybersecurity talent has never been more intense.”
