We recently concluded the RCOcean Academic Seminar 2026 on May 18 2026. This seminar provided a valuable platform for academic dialogue, bringing together researchers from PolyU, RCOcean, and the University of São Paulo to explore new opportunities in marine science, natural products chemistry, genomics, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The seminar featured a keynote presentation by Prof. Norberto Peporine Lopes, Associate Provost for Research and Innovation at the University of São Paulo (USP), Brazil, and Full Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences of Ribeirão Preto. His talk, entitled “Chemical Interactions in Microorganisms: From Molecules to Ecosystems and Their Biological Implications,” offered inspiring insights into how molecular interactions among microorganisms can shape biological systems, ecological processes, and broader applications in natural products research.
During the session, Prof. Lopes shared his extensive expertise in Natural Products Chemistry and Mass Spectrometry, with particular emphasis on chemical ecology, biodiversity valorization, and the discovery of bioactive molecules. His presentation highlighted how chemical signals and molecular networks can help us better understand microorganisms, ecosystems, and their potential implications for human health and environmental science.
The seminar also included the exchange session with members of RCOcean, providing an excellent opportunity to introduce ongoing research directions, strengthen mutual understanding, and identify potential areas for future collaboration between PolyU and USP.
