Summary

The 2026 IEEE RAS Summer School on Small Quadcopter Drones is a five-day intensive short course bridging technical foundations with hands-on practice in small quadcopter drone systems. The course covers design, operation, control, and real-world applications in the emerging low-altitude economy. It is hosted by the Department of Aeronautical and Aviation Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and delivered as part of the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society Technical Education Program (TEP).

The course is delivered as a hybrid short course, with in-person participation as the primary mode and remote access supported for selected lecture sessions.

Programme Highlights

  • A focused five-day learning journey combining aerial robotics theory with quadcopter system practice
  • Hands-on workshops covering drone assembly, flight training, and control exercises
  • Exposure to low-altitude economy themes, safety frameworks, and real-world applications
  • A capstone demonstration or competition that integrates the week's learning
  • Networking across the drone and robotics communities
