The project contains SIX phases and all the phases involve the input from our project team.

Phase 1Assess the current situation and obstacles of integration between local and non-local students within current curricular and co-curricular practices within Hong Kong Universities

The first phase of the project involved focus groups and detailed observation of information related to the practices for internationalisation. All data were triangulated to form the knowledge base on the internationalisation needs, and effective ways of integrating internationalisation practices within the respective institution.

Phase 2: Develop and design an adaptable inter-institutional framework (which includes in-depth strategic combination of curricular and co-curricular practices)

Integration of local and non-local students is a long-standing complicated issue, which cannot be simply resolved by the introduction of one or two internationalisation activities inside or outside the classroom. A conceptual framework needs to be developed to embed good internationalisation practices at all levels within/across institutions in the Hong Kong context.

Phase 3: Evaluate and adjust the inter-institutional framework

The inter-institutional framework developed will be evaluated through a series of formative evaluative interview sessions with staff members and students from the three participating institutions.

Phase 4: Deliver and promote the adaptable inter-institutional framework

Seminars and/or workshops have been conducting to share the findings of the need assessment, degree of integration of local and non-local students, and the inter-institutional framework of combination with the institution management and faculty/non-faculty members of the three participating institutions via the institution’s respective learning and teaching centre.

Phase 5: Build a Resource Centre and a Project Publication

A virtual resource centre was established to disseminate findings of the need assessment, inter-institutional framework (with good internationalisation practices), seminar/workshop materials and project publications generated.

Phase 6: Evaluate the outcomes and impacts

Evaluation framework plan was developed to demonstrate the success of the adaptable inter-institutional framework and its practices.
