About MHRC

Welcome Message

As stated by the World Health Organization (WHO), there is “no health without mental health”.
Hong Kong is facing a deteriorating state of our mental health. She was ranked the fifth most stressed population on Earth in a 2018 survey of 23 economies by Cigna, a health service company. We are also under the negative impact of social unrest on mental health such as depression. Mental health crisis has been developing under the influence of COVID-19 pandemic. Ever increasing mental health and wellbeing problem in the workplace is fully recognized.

Mental Health Research Centre (MHRC) is established with a dedication to conduct translational research for informing new approaches in clinical practice, service provision and policy change, aiming for enhancing mental well-being of the public and it may go beyond medical care.

MHRC, a solid research platform, promotes concerted effort in dealing key mental health issues and challenges such as:
• Infancy stage of translational study of mental health – mechanism (basic and neuroscience), treatment (clinical intervention) and new practice models
• Underling societal and cultural influence of mental health
• Social stigma as a limiting factor to early screening and early treatment
• The lack of a comprehensive, consistent mental health policy

Active research work will be via seed fund, donation fund and contract research, appointment of MHRC Fellows, International Advisory Board, visit/attachment programmes to key laboratories and organization of international conference or symposium etc.

MHRC welcomes, always, deep collaboration and interdisciplinary research locally, regionally and globally to achieve our shared goals. By joining forces with excellent researchers via MHRC, we are confident of a better world of mental health in the near future.
