Summary

GeoAI is the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with spatial data, science, and geospatial technology to increase understanding and solve spatial problems. It uses spatially explicit AI techniques that are designed to solve spatial problems through the analysis of spatial data, and includes techniques for detecting patterns, making predictions, spatiotemporal forecasting that can address challenges from societal and environmental management. With the explosion of spatial data and imagery coming from satellites, drones, and real-time IoT sensors – coupled with the urgency to make sense of rapid changes – GeoAI and spatial analysis answer the complex and high-value questions of where and when. In the presentation, the speaker will elaborate the fundamental concept of GeoAI and showcase the global and local success cases illustrating its adoption for natural disaster mapping, urban management and smart city development. These real-world reference cases are evidence to the GeoAI’s capabilities in contributing to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals in building a sustainable and resilient future.
