Student Message

As the only UGC-funded department in the geomatics discipline, the BSc LSGI programme, I would highly recommend tbis course for interested students.

This programme not only provides a solid foundation in technical and professional skills but also prepares students for real-world applications through field survey camps and Work-Integrated Education (WIE).

During our field camps, we learned important technical skills and built strong friendships with our classmates. These experiences allowed us to work as a team, and many of us developed leadership abilities. My team also participated in various competitions, where we were fortunate to receive recognition, including the Esri Young Scholar Award and the CSDI Award.

Through WIE, I had the opportunity to intern at the Science Park startup and the Development Bureau. These internships equipped me with valuable insights and hands-on experience in laser scanning, land surveying, and spatial data analysis, preparing me to work effectively in both the private and public sectors. I encourage students to consider this programme if choosing a geomatics career path.

Studying on the Land Surveying and Geo-Informatics (LSGI) programme has been a truly life-changing and unforgettable experience for me. Through the courses offered, I acquired a solid knowledge in Surveying and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) while gaining plenty of practical opportunities. Collaborating with peers and teamwork were crucial elements in completing assigned tasks, which have helped shape me into a well-rounded individual.

One of the most memorable moments during my time on the LSGI was participating in the service-learning programme in a rural area of China. During this trip, we applied advanced technologies introduced on our courses to improve the quality of life and foster development, such as GIS and using Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV). By conducting spatial analysis of air quality and pH levels using GIS, we were able to recommend better resource allocation and development policies. UAVs were used to create 3D models that supported tourism promotion in the area. This experience has deeply inspired me, as it demonstrated that the knowledge I gained was not only theoretical but also practical and capable of making a real difference in the lives of those in need.

LSGI also provides a diverse and inclusive environment that encourages exploration and innovation. The department supports students overcome the challenges they face. At LSGI, I developed strong bonds with my peers that have turned into lifelong friendships.

I am truly glad to have chosen LSGI as my major for my four years of university life. If you are seeking a meaningful and enriching university experience, LSGI could be a good choice for your learning journey.
