With the growing number of geriatric pregnancies, birth defects have become a serious issue in medical and social contexts both in Hong Kong and the Mainland. Evidence shows that congenital heart disease (CHD) is the most common type of birth defects. Echocardiography is one of the most important imaging tools to diagnose CHD in infants. However, in clinical practice, making an accurate diagnosis of CHD in infants via echocardiography remains a challenge due to the patient-specific anatomical characteristics of infants’ hearts, the relatively low resolution of echocardiography images, and the high dependency on physicians’ skill and experience. In light of this, Hong Kong InchArt Medical Technology developed an innovative AI-powered system for precise clinical diagnosis of CHD among infants. The system, database and algorithms, not only promote research on AI-powered analysis of medical images in Hong Kong and Shenzhen, but also has great commercial potential and social impacts.
