Director's Message 主任寄语

JRCMI will conduct interdisciplinary research in structural materials, hydrology, sensing, machine learning, structural safety, vibration control, and maintenance for marine infrastructure and apply the technologies to sea-crossing bridges, floating platforms, and offshore wind turbines.


本中心将在结构材料、水文学、传感、机器学习、结构安全、振动控制和维等领域进行跨学科研究,并将这些技术应用于跨海桥梁、浮平台和海上风机。

I welcome you to the Joint Research Centre for Marine Infrastructures (JRCMI) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU).

The JRCMI is a University Research Centres, jointly established in November 2023 by PolyU, the Hong KongZhuhaiMacao Bridge Authority (HZMBA), CCCC Fourth Harbour Engineering Institute Co. Ltd. (CCCC-FHEI), and Nanjing Hydraulic Research Institute (NHRI), based on their long-term collaborations in relevant areas and research platforms, such as the “National Observation and Research Station of Material Corrosion and Structural Safety of Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge in Guangdong” approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, PRC in 2021 and the “Observation and Research Base of Transport Industry of Structural Safety of Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macao Bridge in Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area” approved by the Ministry of Transport, PRC in 2020.

香港理工大学海洋基础设施联合研究中心是由香港理工大学、港珠澳大桥管理局、中交四航工程研究院有限公司和南京水利科学研究院于2023年11月在香港理工大学成立的联合研究中心。研究中心四家单位在相关领域和研究平台上建立了长期合作,包括2021年中国科技部批准的“广东港珠澳大桥材料腐蚀与工程安全国家野外科学观测研究站”,以及2020年中国交通运输部批准的“粤港澳大湾区港珠澳大桥工程安全交通运输行业野外科学观测研究基地”。

The GBA have a very strong marine infrastructure development programme, such as the 55-km long HZMB, the 51 km long Shenzhen–Zhongshan Bridge, the Tsing Ma Bridge, and the Stonecutters Bridge. There are over 22 offshore wind farms in shallow or deep water in the GBA. The recently launched Lantau Tomorrow Vision and Northern Metropolis Development Strategy provide tremendous opportunities and needs in marine infrastructure, including bridges, floating platforms, and wind turbines. In service life, marine infrastructure is exposed to the harsh marine environment and subject to complex loads. The increasing global climate change poses significant threats to the functionality and safety of marine infrastructure.

大湾区拥有非常强劲的海洋基础设施发展规划,如55公里长的港珠澳大桥、51公里长的深中通道、青马大桥和昂船洲大桥等。另外有22个浅水或深水海上风电场。最近推出的明日大屿愿景和北部都会区发展策略为海洋基础设施提供了巨大机遇和需求,包括新建的桥梁、浮体平台和风力发电机。在使用过程中,海洋基础设施暴露在恶劣的海洋环境中并受到多种复杂荷载的作用;同时,不断加剧的全球气候变化对海洋基础设施的功能性和安全性构成了严重的威胁。

The JRCMI will conduct interdisciplinary research in materials, hydrodynamics, sensing, machine learning, safety, control, and maintenance for marine infrastructure and apply the technologies to sea-crossing bridges, floating platforms, and offshore wind turbines. The output of the JRCMI will provide safe, durable and cost-effective marine infrastructure for Hong Kong and the GBA’s future transport, land, and energy development.

联合研究中心将在材料、水动力学、传感、机器学习、安全、控制和维养等领域进行跨学科研究,并将这些技术应用于跨海桥梁、浮体平台和海上风机。我们的研究成果将为香港和大湾区未来交通、土地和能源发展提供安全、耐久和具有成本效益的海洋基础设施。

The JRCMI will organize seminars, symposiums, and conferences in areas related to marine infrastructure, providing a forum for exchanging ideas with regional or international participants, and promoting our research and achievements. We will secure research funds, conduct consultancy projects, publish high-quality papers, and file patents. At the same time, we will also train PhD students, post-doctorate researchers, and practitioners in relevant areas.

联合研究中心将组织与海洋基础设施相关领域的研讨会、专题讨论会和学术会议,为本地和国际从业者提供一个交流平台,宣传推广我们的研究成果。我们将申请研究资金,提供专业咨询服务,发表高质量论文并申请专利。同时,我们还将培养相关领域的博士生、博士后研究员和从业者。

We live in an era when technologies–particularly AI and big data–are evolving rapidly, and the traditional civil engineering industry faces grand challenges. We need close collaborations from multi-disciplines. As the Director of JRCMI, I encourage you to join us to broaden our reach through partnerships within the community, industry, and academia in Hong Kong and beyond.

我们生活在一个新技术(特别是人工智能和大数据)快速发展的时代,同时传统土木工程行业面临着重大挑战和变革,我们需要来自多个学科领域的密切合作。作为联合研究中心主任,我热烈欢迎您的加入,与香港和全球学术界和产业界建立伙伴关系,共同建设有影响力的海洋基础设施。
