Biography
Zhao Feng is the Dean of the School of Art and Archaeology at the Zhejiang University, the Honorary Director of the China National Silk Museum, and a PhD supervisor of the Donghua University and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University. He acts as a member of the National Committee for Cultural Relics Authentication and Preservation in China, Vice President of the Chinese Museum Association, Member of the Executive Board of the International Council of Museums (ICOM), and President of the International Association for the Study of Silk Road Textiles (IASSRT). Specializing in textile archaeology and conservation, museology, and the art history of the Silk Road, Dr Zhao was a visiting research fellow at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York (1997–1998), the Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto (1999), and the British Museum in London (2006). He has published over one hundred papers and authored and edited numerous books in Chinese and English, such as Chinese Silk Art, Textiles from Dunhuang, Chinese Silk and the Silk Road, and Textile Identification and Conservation. He has led several award-winning research projects, including “Weaving Technology During the Eastern Zhou Dynasty” and “The Reinforcement of Fragile Silk Textiles Using Grafting Technology based on Silk Peptide Amino Acid”, which won the Second Prize from the National Cultural Heritage Preservation Innovative Science and Technology Award.
