A delegation from the HKPM – PolyU Joint Chinese Textile Centre (JCTC), comprising representatives from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and the Hong Kong Palace Museum (HKPM), recently conducted a successful visit to Suzhou and Nanjing from 23 to 25 June 2026. During the trip, the delegation engaged in fruitful exchanges and explored cooperation opportunities with prominent local museums and universities.
The joint elegation comprised representatives from PolyU, including Prof. Hang Xing (Co-Director of JCTC, Associate Dean (Global Engagement) of the Faculty of Humanities, and Professor), Dr. Feng Qilong and Dr. Shi Liu (Research Assistant Professors), and Mr. Jiang Yifan (Research Assistant); as well as representatives from HKPM, including Ms. Sum Yin Yau (Associate Curator) and Ms. Joyce Tse (Assistant Project Manager of JCTC).
Visit of Suzhou Embroidery Research Institute
On 23 June 2026, JCTC delegation visited the Suzhou Embroidery Research Institute (SERI 蘇州刺繡研究所). The representatives of SERI included Ms. Huang Yanping (General Manager), Ms. Liu Xiaoyun (Vice General Manager and Board Secretary), and Mr. You Weigang (Design and Art Consultant, former Deputy Director).
Mr. You hosted the JCTC delegation for a guided tour of the SERI, where they visited the studios to observe ongoing embroidery projects. SERI showcased its current innovative trials in embroidery craftsmanship and artistic creation, such as restoring classic fine art masterpieces through superb embroidery techniques.
Subsequently, both parties proceeded to a discussion meeting. Representatives of SERI first introduced its illustrious historical development. General Manager, Ms. Huang, stated that the institute is highly willing to provide its rich industry resources to support JCTC's initiatives, with specific collaborative details to be discussed in alignment with JCTC's future plans.
At the conclusion of the visit, the institute presented the delegation with the scholarly publication The History of Chinese Embroidery (《中國刺繡史》), bringing this highly productive exchange visit to a successful close.

Visit of Nanjing University of the Arts and Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum
On 24 June 2026, JCTC delegation visited the Nanjing University of the Arts (NUA 南京藝術學院). The representatives of NUA included Prof. Ji Yibo (Chair of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Design, Professor), Prof. Cai Shujuan (Vice Dean of the Department of Fashion and Apparel Design, Professor), Prof. Wang Jian (Vice Dean of the School of Design, Associate Professor), Prof. Yan Yishu (School of Design, Associate Professor), and Prof. Zhang Ping (School of Design, Associate Professor).
During their fruitful visit to NUA, the delegation engaged in academic discussion, toured the student design exhibition and art museum, and attended a joint luncheon.
At the meeting, both parties introduced their respective projects, with NUA highlighting how they integrate intangible cultural heritage into their curriculum. Prof. Yan noted that PolyU’s strength in technology and materials research perfectly complements NUA’s artistic focus.
Looking ahead, both sides aim to leverage their complementary strengths in technology and art to host joint workshops, fostering heritage preservation and innovation.

Following the visit to NUA, the delegation subsequently visited the Jiangning Imperial Silk Manufacturing Museum (江寧織造博物館) for a discussion meeting. The representatives of the museum included Mr. Huang Chen (Deputy Director) and Mr. Long Hao (Museum Curator). Ms. Wang Chen (Secretary, Deputy Director, and Research Fellow of Suzhou Silk Museum), who is frequently invited to the Jiangning Silk Museum for cultural relic appraisal and grading, also attended. |

Visit of Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Museum and Nanjing Museum
The delegation also visited the Nanjing Yunjin Brocade Museum (南京雲錦博物館) on 25 June 2026. The representatives of the Nanjing Yunjin Museum included Mr. Ming-Wei Jian (Director), Mr. Yu-Gang Sun (Design Director of Research Institute), Mr. Zheng Li (Chief Yijiang (Weaving Design Director), Ms. Kang-Ni Shi (Head of Cultural Relics Restoration Department), Ms. Ruo-Qi Wen (Project Representative, Exhibition and Promotion Planner), and Mr. Hao Zu (Director of Publicity Center, Brand Director).JCTC delegation enjoyed a museum tour, constructive discussion, and luncheon. Nanjing Yunjin Museum boasts a rich legacy in relic restoration and traditional weaving, while successfully integrating modern design with creative industries in recent years. During the meeting, the museum shared plans for its new facility opening this September and expressed strong support for the JCTC's future cultural promotion and training initiatives, aiming to inject new vitality into heritage preservation and modern innovation.
During the meeting, both parties engaged in in-depth discussions on research, conservation, and exhibition collaborations. Showcasing its vast collection of over 3,000 precious textile relics, Nanjing Museum proposed active scientific research collaborations with JCTC. At the conclusion of the meeting, the museum presented an exhibition catalog, looking forward to jointly promoting academic research and public dissemination of textile culture.
