Calvin Wong Wai Keung is Cheng Yik Hung Professor in Fashion of Institute of Textiles and Clothing at PolyU. He is also currently serving as Chairman of Department Research Committee.

Professor Wong’s main research interests include fashion and artificial intelligence integration, computer vision, image feature extraction, and pattern recognition for fashion and textiles. Professor Wong’s research outcome is highly recognized by both the academia and the industry and generates a great impact on fashion and textile sectors. He has published over 100 high impact research articles in Science Citation Index journals. Most of them are world-leading and top-tier journals, including, IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems, IEEE Transactions on Cybernetics, IEEE Transactions on Image Processing, Pattern Recognition, etc. Essential Science Indicators has recently ranked his two research publications in IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems among the top 1% of the most cited articles in his field.  Professor Wong has authored and edited three books on the integration of artificial intelligence techniques with the fashion industry, including the first-two-ever on the topics of “Optimising Decision Making in the Apparel Supply Chain Using Artificial Intelligence: From Production to Retailing” and “Applications of Computer Vision in Fashion and Textiles”.

Over the past ten years, Professor Wong received eight research related awards, including best research paper awards in international research conferences, and international and regional innovation awards. On the basis of his research track record, he has always been invited as plenary, keynote and invited speaker, technical programme committee member, and track chair of several international academic conferences. His academic research deliverables have also been patented and successfully licensed to the fashion industry for commercial use. Two representative examples include “Intelligent Fashion Mix-and-Match System for Cross-selling and Up-selling of Fashion Retailing” and “RFID-based Apparel Management Expert System”. Professor Wong has successfully collaborated with various local and international fashion brands and apparel companies in a number of research projects. He has also served as consultant for several fashion retailers, fashion buying offices and apparel manufacturing companies.

Professor Wong also demonstrates excellence in teaching and unfailing commitment to the provision of an enhanced interactive and supportive learning environment. His excellence in teaching earned him both the prestigious PolyU President’s Award for Excellent Performance and Achievement in Teaching and Faculty Teaching Award in 2012/13.
