Dr Zaixin Song 宋再新

Research Assistant Professor

Brief Biosketch

Dr. Song Zaixin is a Research Assistant Professor and doctoral supervisor of the Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering (ISE) at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). He received the B.Eng. and M.Eng. degrees in electrical engineering and automation at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), Harbin, China, in 2016 and 2018, respectively. He received the Ph.D. degree majoring electrical engineering at City University of Hong Kong (CityU), Hong Kong, in 2021. In September 2021, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in CityU. In July 2022, he worked as a postdoctoral research fellow in Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. Currently, he is working as a Research Assistant Professor in State Key Laboratory of Ultra-precision Machining Technology (SKL-UMT), Department of Industrial and Systems Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

Dr. Song has been working on electric drive and machinery for years. His current research interests include: i) design and control of modern electric drives, ii) smart manufacturing robotics drives, iii) sustainable transport propulsion, iv) renewable power generation and management, v) AI-enabled design and fault diagnosis, and among other related fields. His expertise lies in the compact, robust, and multiphysics design of smart drives for industry applications. Dr. Song has published over 90 research articles and authorised over 20 US and Chinese patents. Dr. Song was the awardee of 2023 Star Reviewer of IEEE Transactions on Energy Conversion, 2022 IEEE Transportation Electrification Committee Prize Ph.D. Thesis Talk Award, and was shortlisted by 2023 Annual World’s Top 2% Scientists Released by Stanford University.

He is currently Member of IEEE, Member of China Electrotechnical Society (CES), Member of IISE, Member of Elsevier Applied Energy Academy, Project Coordinator of SKL-UMT, and serves as a Session Chair of IEEE conferences for many times.
