AI Technology for Secondary School Principals

In collaboration with the Hong Kong Association of the Heads of Secondary Schools, the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) organized a seminar for around 30 local secondary school principals on 22 April 2024.

A delegation comprised Prof HU Xiangen, Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD), Prof Andrew LI, Dean of Faculty of Humanities and Director of Centre for Immersive Learning and Metaverse in Education (CILME), and PolyU colleagues visited NetDragon Websoft Holdings Limited (NetDragon) in Fuzhou on 13 April 2024.

Forum on Higher Education in the Age of AI in Shanghai

Invited by Peking University, Prof HU Xiangen, Director of the Institute for Higher Education Research and Development (IHERD) attended the Forum on Higher Education in the Age of AI in Shanghai on 28 March 2024. During the event, Prof Hu actively participated in engaging discussions and fruitful exchanges with professionals from different fields.

Seminar x Platform Demonstration: Personalised Learning, Research and Innovation for Higher Education

Generative AI technology can play a crucial role in creating a customized learning experience that empowers students to progress smoothly towards their learning destination. An insightful seminar titled "Personalised Learning, Research, and Innovation for Higher Education" has been organized on 24 January 2024. In the seminar, Dr Prasad RAM, Co-Founder and CEO of Gooru discussed the transformative power of Generative AI in personalized learning. Following the seminar, Mr. Srinivasan PADMANABHAN, Co-Founder and Chief Product Officer of Gooru, provided a live demonstration of the platform’s capabilities. Attendees were captivated by Mr. Padmanabhan’s demonstration, which was facilitated by Dr Eric TSUI, Senior Project Fellow of the Educational Research Centre.

New Director of IHERD Assumed Duty

IHERD is pleased to announce that Prof HU Xiangen has assumed duty as the new Director of IHERD and Educational Research Centre (ERC) on 20 December 2023. In the capacity as Director of IHERD, Prof HU would lead the promotion and support of the University’s educational research and pedagogical innovations, and help enhance the capacity of the University as a forward-looking thought leader that could contribute to the future development of higher education in the region and beyond.

The First Assembly of IHERD Fellows

The First Assembly of IHERD Fellows was successfully held on 22 December 2023. With the honourable presence of Prof TENG Jin-Guang, President of PolyU, and Prof WONG Kwok-yin, Vice President (Education) of PolyU, the event brought more than 20 IHERD fellows together who actively engaged in sharing their ideas and sought ways to advance teaching and learning. The participating fellows welcomed and supported the proposal to form small research groups as a way to inspire research collaborations and develop relationships between faculty of different disciplines.
