The SHTM bestowed an Honorary Professorship on Mr Francesco Frangialli, Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), on 13 January 2009 in recognition of his significant contribution to the development of the world's tourism industry.

Held over a week from 4 to 11 March, the SHTM's Career Week 2009 provided information about employment opportunities for graduates and placement opportunities for undergraduates in the hospitality and tourism industry.
