  3. Learn a lesson from Accidents and Incidents (Mr Y K Kam)
  4. Conducting Safety Inspection (Ir Nelson Chan)
Course objectives:
The University Health and Safety Policy stipulates that Departmental Health and Safety Officer (DHSO) should be appointed by Head of Department to assist him/her in ensuring high standards of health and safety in their departments and the DHSOs should be suitably trained.
Every year, HSEO organizes training courses for DHSOs and supervisors who have specific health and safety responsibilities so that they can carry out their duties effectively. 

Target group(s):
All untrained DHSOs and those who may take up health and safety duties within their department are required to attend. Remarks: A 10-15 minutes test will be given at the end of each session and HSEO will issue certificate to those participants attending all 4 sessions and passing all the tests.

Manual Handling Operations – Employees’ Refresher Training Course

21 October 2010 (Thu) 
9:30 a.m. – 12:00 noon

  1. Basic understanding of the anatomy and function of the spine and the basic ergonomics principle.
  2. Legal requirements of employers, employees, preliminary and further risk assessments.
  3. The hazards and causes of injury associated with manual handling operations.
  4. The necessary preventive and protective measures.
  5. The safe and proper manual handling methods.
  6. Exchange experience & practical session.
Course objectives:
This course aims to refresh participants who attended a manual handling operations training course before, to revise their manual handling skills and knowledge, and give an opportunity for them to exchange experience during the training session.

Target group(s):
All staff who attended manual handling operations course before and wish to refresh themselves are welcome to attend. 

Remarks: If possible, please state the types of manual handling operations required to be performed by the participant(s) in the “Remarks” field so that HSEO can make better arrangements (practical session) for the course.

Laboratory Safety Reinforcement Training for Research Personnel

  1. Laboratory safety management; chemical and biological safety (Mr Danny Fok)
  2. Laser and ionizing radiation safety (Mr Chris Leung)
  3. Fire and other hazards in the laboratory (Mr Ivan Chan)
Course objectives:
This course is the second tier training on laboratory safety for research personnel who has completed the on-line training and registered as laboratory users via the “Web-based Self-learning and Registration System on Laboratory Safety”. Since participants already have basic concepts of laboratory safety, this course aims at providing information on specific areas of laboratory safety with more examples and accident cases for their learning. They are also encouraged to raise questions on health and safety conditions of their respective laboratories for discussion.     

Target group(s):
Research personnel who have registered as laboratory users via the “Web-based Self-learning and Registration System on Laboratory Safety” on HSEO’s homepage should attend this course within a period of three months after registration.
