Summary

In 2021, the daily disposal of food waste in Hong Kong was over 3,400 tonnes, adding up to over 1.25 million tonnes a year. That is equivalent to the weight of 82,000 double-decked buses. This figure is astonishing and can be cut right from our dining table. Our discussion will include an overview of Hong Kong’s waste challenges and the government’s waste management directions. We will also cover the reason for producing such a large amount of food waste and provide ways to reduce and reuse food waste.

✨By fulfiling the attendance requirements and completing the post-event feedback form, participants are able to earn 10 GreenCoins rewards to use with the PolyU GreenCoin app.

Through public education and community mobilization, we aim to facilitate action by igniting green energy throughout our community, promoting resource conservation and a zero-waste culture by changing attitudes, and turning Hong Kong into a healthy green city. Our scope of work includes sustainability policy research & development, green corporate partnership, and green civic education.
