Major global shipping companies ban carrying shark fin according to the report on “Managing Risk: Global Shipping Companies Say No to Shark Fin”

It is well understood that we should help to maintain a sustainable future for the world’s sharks and restore global marine ecosystems. Nevertheless, Hong Kong accounts for about 50% of the global shark fin trade. After conducting a market survey, WWF-Hong Kong revealed that in fact over 60 percent of major global container/line operators have established policies prohibiting the carriage of shark fins. It is hoped that more attention can be drawn to this issue and more industry stakeholders will take steps to ensure that such policies are effectively implemented.
