PolyU is committed to whole-person education. We recognise students’ enormous potential, both academically and beyond. Through our bursary and scholarship schemes, as well as other financial support, we strive to offer students the resources they need to attain all-round development.

Your financial support can motivate students to strive forward and achieve their aspirations. Donors can choose to set up scholarships or bursaries or donate to the PolyU WeCare Fund, your contribution will give our students access to a wide range of new experiences and opportunities for personal growth.

Scholarship

PolyU awards scholarships to students as a recognition of their remarkable performance. Scholarships are typically based on academic merit, but may also be awarded based on performance in a specific area, such as sports or student leadership, or particular study areas.

Scholarship Types
  • Academic Scholarship
Recognise students with outstanding academic achievements

  • Entry Scholarship
Recognise local, mainland and overseas students with outstanding performance at secondary school, before entering PolyU
  • Exchange Scholarship
Subsidise the airfares and living expenses of students on academic exchanges outside Hong Kong (on a semester or one-year basis)
  • Service-Learning Scholarship
Recognise students with outstanding performance in Service-Learning, and who are involved in community services
  • Sports Scholarship
Recognising students who achieve excellence in sports

A donor may set up or name a scholarship, and stipulate certain conditions for their scholarship, such as the programme to be supported. Scholarship awardees are usually nominated by the heads of academic departments, in consultation with their staff.

Scholarship donations can be endowments or may be renewed annually. The donor of an endowment scholarship donates a capital sum to the University and the revenue generated from the fund is used to cover the award. Nominations are usually sent to donors for their approval.

    Bursaries

Bursaries are offered to alleviate students’ financial pressure so that they can focus on learning and development. Applications can be submitted at the beginning of each academic year and bursaries are recommended based on financial need and satisfactory academic performance of students.

A donor may set up or name a bursary, and stipulate certain conditions for a bursary, such as supporting students in specified programmes or with particular levels of family income. Bursary donations can be endowments or renewed annually.

    PolyU WeCare Fund

At PolyU, we believe that students should not be stripped of their opportunities to pursue whole-person development because of financial hardship. The PolyU WeCare Fund was established to alleviate the financial pressure on students who are not qualified for government grants and are not getting enough financial support from their families. The Fund will provide additional resources for students to pursue various purpose-driven initiatives and participate in extracurricular activities that are proven to be an integral part of a holistic education.

Students in need of financial assistance can submit an application to the Student Affairs Office (SAO). A fund management committee set up by SAO will oversee the management of the Fund. Donors can offer their support in a one-time lump sum contribution or through a monthly donation scheme.
