Able Engineering Holdings Limited (Able Engineering) was listed on the Main Board of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in 2017. Its major businesses include construction of local public and private building projects, as well as their repair and maintenance works.

Able Engineering is based in Hong Kong, it has been serving Hong Kong since 1976. Being a responsible contractor, “Health and Safety” have been the primary management objectives and commitment for Able Engineering. As such, the company endeavours to support the research on construction health and safety, and to provide a healthy and safe environment for construction workers.

Over the years, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University has nurtured a lot of brilliant and competent professionals for the Construction Industry, and some of them have become important members of the Able Engineering’s team. Through this Endowed Professorship, Able Engineering aims to push forward academic researches, and to implement the vision of health and safety in every detail of local construction projects.

Ir Professor Albert Chan

 

Ir Professor Albert Chan is currently Head of Department of Building and Real Estate, Associate Director of the Research Institute for Sustainable Urban Development, and Chair Professor of Construction Engineering and Management. He was Associate Dean and Interim Dean of the Faculty of Construction and Environment from 2011 to 2013, and from 2013 to 2014 respectively.

For more than three decades, he has conducted research on a wide range of topics across the broad field of construction engineering and management, including construction health and safety, project success, construction partnering, and public-private-partnership. He has authored and co-authored some 345 Science Citation Index (SCI) journal papers, leading to over 7,067 citations and an H-index of 44 according to the Web of Science Core Collection. He is on the Civil Engineering list of the Most Cited Researchers developed for ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects 2016 by Elsevier.

Professor Chan's outstanding contributions have earned him a string of awards and prizes, including the Hong Kong Institute of Project Management Achievement Awards (2014, 2015, 2017, 2018), the Asia Pacific Project Management Achievement Awards (2014, 2017, 2018), the First Class Scientific Advancement Award (2016), Grand Award in the Community Excellence category, Distinguished Knowledge Transfer Awards (2016), Gold Medals in the 36th and 44th International Exhibition Inventions, New Techniques and Product, Geneva, Switzerland (2008, 2016), Premier Award of the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) International Innovation & Research Awards in the Innovation Achiever’s Award Category (2008, 2015), and Local Grand Prize Winner of the Construction Industry Council (CIC) Innovation Award (2015).

His current research interests focus on exploring how extreme hot and humid weather affects the health and productivity of construction workers and developing innovative devices to help improve their well-being. The Endowed Professorship will facilitate Professor Chan to further develop such innovations to enhance the well-being and productivity of construction workers.
