CBS Receives 2020 Eurasia Foundation (from Asia) Grant

The teaching team of CBS1B03 East Asia: Towards a Global Community with Cultural Diversity (Dr Sun-A KIM [Principal Investigator], Ms Sin Ae SIM, Dr Hae Min HAN, and Dr Reijiro AOYAMA) has recently received a grant of USD12,500 from Eurasia Foundation (from Asia), formerly known as One Asia Foundation. The teaching team has received the grant eight times since 2012, totalling over HKD1,400,000. The grant will be used to invite guest speakers and organise activities for students to better understand and experience East Asian societies and cultures.

How long does it take to process the application? Transcript of studies/testimonial will normally be ready for mailing in 7 working days for students and graduands of the current academic year. For other cases, the Faculty Office may need more time to process your application. It would help to shorten the processing time if you could provide as much information as possible to facilitate record searching. For urgent cases, please indicate the date when the transcript of studies/testimonial are required and contact fh.enquiry@polyu.edu.hk, if necessary. Documentary evidence must be attached. Collection of Student Identity Card (Semester 2 of 2021/22) For Current Student Q1. My student identity card will expire by the end of January, how can I renew my student identity card? Please note for students whose student identity cards are due for renewal, you can collect the new student card from the Academic Registry Service Centre starting from 25 January 2022 as long as you are "active" students in the semester concerned. For students who are currently out of Hong Kong, you may collect the renewed student identity card after returning to Hong Kong. The online access to electronic resources in Semester Two of 2021/22 will NOT be suspended even if you are not going to collect your renewed student identity card in January 2022, provided that you will continue your study in Semester Two of 2021/22. Winners of the Outstanding Student Award of Department 2019 have also bee announced and the recipients from our Faculty are:  Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies Li Xiyuan Department of Chinese Culture Pang Wing Cheong Department of English Cheuk Wing Tung Jenny PolyU's Outstanding Student Award is granted on an annual basis to full-time final-year students who excel in both academic and non-academic pursuits during their studies. Each academic department is allowed to nominate one candidate. The “Most Outstanding PolyU Student” is then selected among the eight awardees from six faculties and two independent schools.

Neuroscience Paper Ranked among Top 100 by Scientific Reports 2019

Have you ever wondered what is actually going on inside your brain when you read a text? Did you know your brain will work differently when you read expository texts? In a research article recently published by Scientific Reports, our Faculty Dean Prof. Li Ping and his team shared their research findings on the reading brain in scientific text comprehension as well as the effects of e-device usage on learning. PolyU Linguistics Ranked 45th Worldwide

PolyU Linguistics ranks among the top 50 in the world for the eighth year in a row. PolyU-trained Student Wins Bronze Medal in Online Olympiad in Linguistics 2020

A representative from the Hong Kong Linguistics Olympiad (HKLO) team1, Bui Ka (Amber) Chan, won bronze medal in the second Online Olympiad in Linguistics 2020 which was held in January this year. Online Olympiad in Linguistics 2020 started on Friday, January 24 (7:00 am UTC) and lasted till Monday, January 27 (10:00 pm UTC). This event brought together more than 500 high school students from 32 countries/regions. It is the first time for 6 Hong Kong delegates to attend this competition. These students were jointly trained by Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies (CBS) and Department of English (ENGL).
