About the Competition 競賽簡介

Organised by the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences (FCMS), the PolyU Young Minds in Computer and Mathematical Sciences Competition (“Competition”) offers secondary school students in Hong Kong, particularly those in S.4 and S.5 (or equivalent), an opportunity to explore and cultivate their interest in data-driven fields such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Applied Mathematics, Computing, and Data Science.  Participating students will have the opportunity to enhance their problem-solving abilities and interpersonal skills. Additionally, they will gain exposure to real-world applications, learning to bridge theoretical concepts with practical solutions. Through this experience, students will prepare themselves to meet the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly developing technological landscape.

由香港理工大學計算機及數學科學學院（FCMS）主辦的「理大計算機及數學科學青年新秀競賽」（簡稱「競賽」），旨在為香港中四、中五，或同等年級的學生，提供探索數據導向領域及培養相關興趣的學習機會，相關領域包括人工智能（AI）、應用數學、計算機科學及數據科學。參賽學生將能提升其解難能力及人際溝通技巧，並能於現實生活中實踐所學，將理論概念與實際解決方案相結合。透過此寶貴的學習體驗，學生將更好地裝備自己，以迎接迅速發展的科技環境所帶來的挑戰與機遇。

Eligibility 參賽資格

• 
  Secondary 4 or 5/ Grade 10 or 11/ Year 11 or 12 students in the 2025/26 academic year with valid HKIDs and from schools situated in Hong Kong;
• Each participating team should consist of 3 students*, with 1 optional backup student, and must be nominated by a teacher coordinator from their school. Team members may be from different grade levels; however, no changes to team composition will be allowed after nomination;
• Each school may nominate up to 5 teams for the Preliminary Round. The first 2 teams listed on the registration form will be given priority consideration, while the remaining team(s) will be considered subject to available quota.

• 參賽學生須持有有效香港身份證，並於2025/26學年就讀位於香港境內學校之中四或中五/ 第10或 11級/ 第11或 12班;
• 每支參賽隊伍須由3名學生組成*（另可設1名後備隊員），並由學校一名聯絡老師提名；隊員可來自不同年級，唯一經提名後不得更改隊伍成員;
• 每所學校可提名不多於5支隊伍參加初賽，其中報名表上首2支隊伍將獲優先考慮，其餘隊伍將視乎名額情況作個別審核。

Registration 報名詳情

• Application Period: 23 March – 20 April 2026 (23:59 HKT)
• Registration Fee: Free of Charge
• Teams must be nominated by a teacher coordinator via the Online Registration Form ; Individual applications will not be accepted.
• Each school may nominate up to 5 teams, with the first 2 teams receiving priority consideration for the Preliminary Round.
• Based on the performance in the Preliminary Round, top-performing teams (up to 2 teams per school) will be shortlisted for the Final Round.
• Upon successful registration, the Faculty of Computer and Mathematical Sciences will send a confirmation email and the Endorsement Form to the teacher coordinator. The signed Endorsement Form must be returned to confirm participation. All competition-related updates will be communicated primarily through the teacher coordinator’s email.
• The Hong Kong Polytechnic University reserves the right to make the final decision on acceptance of team registrations.

• 報名成功後，本院將向聯絡老師發出確認電郵及確認回條 (Endorsement Form) ；聯絡老師須提交已簽署之確認回條以確認參與。所有競賽相關資訊亦會直接發送至聯絡老師之電郵。
• 香港理工大學保留接納隊伍報名與否之最終決定權。

Competition Details 競賽詳情

• The Preliminary Round will take place on 10 May 2026 on the PolyU campus and will be conducted as a paper-based challenge. All participants are required to attend in person.
• Each team member must complete a multiple-choice paper of 60 questions (bilingual, in both Traditional Chinese and English) within 1.5 hours, mainly covering topics from the local secondary school curriculum, with a primary focus on Mathematics, Information & Communication Technology (ICT), and also includes selected questions drawn from other high school curricula and at the university level.
• The scores of all members in the same team will be aggregated to form the team’s total score. The top 30 teams with outstanding performance will be shortlisted for the Final Round.
• Teams selected for the Final Round will be invited to attend an online training / briefing session to better prepare for the Final Round scheduled for 4 July 2026.
• The Final Round consists of three competition tracks: Artificial Intelligence (AI), Applied Mathematics, and Computing.
• Framework for the Final Round will be provided to the finalist teams in due course.
• All finalist teams are required to complete all three competition tracks during the Final Round.

• 初賽將於 2026年5月10日 在香港理工大學校園舉行，並以紙本形式進行，所有參賽學生須親身出席。
• 每位隊員須於 1.5小時內完成一份包含60題 (設中英對照) 的選擇題試卷，內容主要涵蓋本地中學課程，重點包括數學和資訊及通訊科技（ICT），並包含部分選自其他高中課程及大學程度的題目。
• 各隊所有隊員的成績將合併計算為隊伍總分，表現最優秀的30支隊伍將晉級決賽。
• 晉級決賽的隊伍將獲邀參與網上賽前工作坊 / 簡介會，為 2026年7月4日 舉行的決賽作更充分準備。
• 決賽設有三條賽道，分別為人工智能（AI）、應用數學及電子計算。
• 入圍隊伍將於稍後獲發決賽的整體框架。
• 所有入圍決賽的隊伍須於決賽當天完成所有賽道之競賽。

Framework and Judging Criteria for Final Round

決賽框架及評審準則

Finalist teams will be provided with the framework and judging criteria for the Final Round in due course.入圍隊伍將於稍後獲發決賽的整體框架及評審準則。

Prizes 獎項

Prizes will be presented to the top three teams of each respective track with certificates presented at the Award Presentation Ceremony.

Champion – Cash Prize of HKD18,000

First Runner-up – Cash Prize of HKD12,000

Second Runner-up – Cash Prize of HKD9,000

The team attaining the highest total score across all tracks will be awarded the title of ‘Grand Champion’ and will receive an additional Cash Prize of HKD18,000.

於所有賽道總得分最高之隊伍將獲授「總冠軍」榮譽，並可額外獲得港幣 18,000 元現金獎。

Adverse Weather Arrangement 惡劣天氣下的安排

• Before activities start (and by 6:00 a.m. on any event day): All activities will be postponed.
• During activities: All activities will immediately be suspended.

• Preliminary Round: 23 May 2026 (Saturday)
• Final Round: 11 July 2026 (Saturday)

一號熱帶氣旋警告信號（一號信號）、三號熱帶氣旋警告信號（三號信號）、黃色暴雨警告信號 或紅色暴雨警告信號生效時，所有活動將如常進行。 當香港天文台發出「預警八號熱帶氣旋警告信號」、「八號 (或以上) 熱帶氣旋警告信號」或「極端情況」時：

• 活動開始前（且於活動當日上午6時前發出或維持）: 所有活動將延期舉行。
• 活動進行期間：所有活動將立即暫停。

如活動需要延期，日期如下：

• 初賽：2026年5月23日（星期六）
• 決賽：2026年7月11日（星期六）
