Congratulations to Dr. Hongzhi XU, one of our outstanding PhD graduates

Dr. Hongzhi XU (PhD, PolyU-CBS 2015), after a post-doctoral fellow and research position at UPenn, has just received a tenured Associate Professor position, with the special title of ‘Zhiyuan Young Scholar (志远青年学者)’ at the newly formed Research Center on Corpus Linguistics (Director: Prof. Hu Kaibao) at the Shanghai International Studies University (上外).

Best paper award, the 20th CLSW international conference

Congratulations to Ms. Zhong Yin, DALS doctoral student under Prof. Huang's supervision, who won the best paper award at the 20th CLSW international conference, for her joint paper with Prof. Huang entitled 'Eventivity and Auditory Modality: An Onto-Cognitive Account of Hearing Nouns in Mandarin Chinese'.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor, Dr. Wong Minney, for being awarded a highly competitive ECS grant on her project: “Modulation of primary motor cortex to enhance treatment of dysarthria post-stroke” (36 months, HK$ 1,411,936)

Congratulations to Chair Professor, Prof. William S.-Y. Wang, for being awarded a highly competitive GRF grant on his project: “Neurocognitive bases of immediate learning success and lexical consolidation of second language words in older adults: a multi-modal (MRI/EEG) study on medial temporal lobe functions” (30 months, HK$ 779.060)

Congratulations to Associate Professor, Dr. Li Dechao, for being awarded a highly competitive GRF grant on his project: “A Comparative Enquiry into Cognitive Processes of Translation and Paraphrasing – Evidence from eye-tracking and key-logging” (24 months, HK$ 89,000)

Successful EU grant application for the CoBra project (“Conversational Brains 腦與腦的對話”)

Congratulations to Chair Professor, Prof. Huang Chu-ren, for being awarded a highly competitive and prestigious EU grant (EU H2020, 36 months, €3,993,244, led by Prof. Noël Nguyen of LPL-CRNS and Aix-Marseille University). This Innovative Training Network (ITN) project consists of a consortium of 15 members: 9 formal members, and 6 partner organizations. PolyU is the only non-EU partner. Read more

HSBC Hong Kong Scholarship

Congratulations to Mr Corey Wang 王宇翔 on winning the first runner-up award at the 2018 National Essay Writing Contest (「品書知日本」2018徴文大賽)

Congratulations to Mr Corey Wang王宇翔 for winning the first runner-up award at the 2018 National Essay Writing Contest (「品書知日本」2018徴文大賽) organized by Shanghai Jiao Tong University Library and The Japan Science Society! Participants were asked to submit a short piece of writing on a topic related to Japan. Mr Wang, a student of the Institute of Textiles and Clothing (ITC), received the award for his excellent essay titled “Asian integration and Tenshin Okakura.” The winners, including Mr Wang, were invited to attend an award presentation ceremony held in Shanghai in December 2018. Mr Wang is also the winner of the 2018 PolyU Japan-themed Essay Writing Contest organized jointly by Pao Yue-kong Library and the Department of Chinese and Bilingual Studies. Read more
