“Furniture for Our Future” Project – for Families of Sub-Divided Units

The PolyU Jockey Club Operation SoInno Season 9 Summary and Action Project Report is now available for downloading. Click here to find out more.

Leveraging ideas and efforts generated from co-creation workshops and action projects, JCDISI established the "Furniture For Our Future" project and invited PolyU cross-disciplinary specialists to join force to come up with design parameters through translational research. With generous support from Hongkong Land HOME FUND, the team was able to refine furniture prototypes that are specially designed in order to support SDU children’s healthy growth and development.

In March 2022, we invited furniture manufacturers to execute the design concept of PolyU School of Design’s furniture prototype. Three tender submissions were received and a tender assessment panel consisting of JCDISI, Hongkong Land HOME FUND and PolyU cross-disciplinary representatives and other experts were formed to evaluate the submitted design proposals based on criteria such as quality, safety and innovativeness. Hong Kong Souven Limited was eventually selected the service provider for this project, further comments and suggestions were provided to ensure that the final product tailors to the actual needs of our potential SDU beneficiaries.

After 6 months of repeated testing and refinement, JCDISI was able to set up a supply chain with local furniture suppliers, refine furniture prototypes into a production-ready, scalable model and arrange delivery services free-of-charge for over 2000 4-16 SDU children that are aged between 4-16 years old, in order to help improve their physical health and learning motives.

Community Collaboration

JCDISI works closely with community organisations to expend our community network and extend our service to SDU families in need across districts. Prior to and during each community distribution campaign, we work with district NGOs to conduct site visits, organise briefing sessions, arrange delivery and volunteer services, as well as to collect feedbacks in order to evaluate our project impacts. The entire project is broken down into four phases, and we target to deliver the ergonomic furniture set to 2000 pre-identified families by mid-2023.
