 1942年，經過日軍武裝的貨船「里斯本丸」，載着1816名英軍戰俘經過中國浙江舟山海域時被美軍潛艇擊沉，危急關頭，善良的中國漁民挺身而出，冒着日軍的槍林彈雨出海救下了384名英軍戰俘…本片完全取材於真實歷史事件，通過對沉船的探索與發掘，通過採訪大量英軍戰俘後人和與事件相關的當事人，收集了大量詳實的信息資料，全面深入透徹地講述了「里斯本丸」沉船始末，以及背後更多驚心動魄、鮮為人知的故事，揭開了掩埋了八十二年的歷史真相。本片所反映的內容是中英在第二次世界大戰中作為盟友並肩作戰、共同抗擊法西斯侵略的重要見證，同時也是揭露日本法西斯在二戰期間又一反人類罪行的鐵證。
