《Visit by Chulalongkorn University》 In February 2026, the PolyU Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) and Faculty of Engineering (FENG) co-hosted a delegation from Chulalongkorn University (CU), Thailand. Aiming to foster collaborative engineering research and academic exchange, the visit began with welcoming remarks from Prof. Xiang-dong LI, Dean of FCE; Prof. H.C. MAN, Dean of FENG; and Prof. Witaya WANNASUPHOPRASIT (Dean of CU Engineering). For BRE, Prof. CHI Hung Li, Acting Associate Head (Research) was invited to the senior leadership in-depth discussion session on strategic partnerships. This visit underscored a shared commitment to advancing sustainable education and research.

《Outstanding Alumni Award of PolyU Faculty of Construction and Environment 2025 Award Presentation Ceremony & Spring Dinner》 The Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) hosted its Outstanding Alumni Award Presentation Ceremony 2025 and Spring Dinner in February. It was a momentous evening to honour the outstanding graduates and celebrate the Chinese New Year with alumni, staff and students. One of the evening’s highlights was witnessing Sr Dr James TSUI Siu Lung, MH receive the Outstanding Alumni Award from Prof. LI Xiang-dong, the Faculty Dean. Sr Dr Tsui is a distinguished graduate whose academic journey with PolyU spans decades from his Bachelor of Science in Building Surveying in 1992 to his Doctor of International Real Estate and Construction (DIREC) in 2024. This Faculty-level accolade follows his earlier recognition as the Outstanding Alumni of BRE. Please join us in congratulating Sr Dr Tsui on this incredible milestone!

《DIREC Graduation Dinner》 In February, the Class of 2025 of the Doctor of International Real Estate and Construction (DIREC) programme hosted a vibrant graduation dinner to celebrate the culmination of their academic journey. Filled with shared memories, the evening was a reflection of academic success. The event was attended by distinguished academics, including Prof. Daniel CHAN, Programme Leader; Prof. Michael SING, Deputy Programme Leader; Prof. Charles LAM, Professor of Practice (Real Estate); Prof. Heng LI, Chair Professor of Construction Informatics; Prof. SUN Yi, Associate Head (Partnership); Prof. CHI Hung Lin, Acting Associate Head (Research); Prof. Ivy WONG, Associate Professor; and Prof. Jeff SHEN, Associate Professor who together offered heartfelt commendations to the cohort. As toasts were raised to future endevours, the night concluded as a perfect milestone - honouring both individual excellence and the collective spirit of the DIREC community.

Mr CHEN Rui Wins Rising Changemaker Prize from HKHS

《Mr CHEN Rui Wins Rising Changemaker Prize from HKHS》 Mr CHEN Rui, our BSc (Hons) Surveying student, has won the Rising Changemaker Prize organised by the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS). At the award presentation ceremony, Prof. LING Kar Kan, HKHS Chairman and PolyU’s Senior Advisor to the President, highlighted that the first-ever Rising Changemaker Prize aimed to challenge students to tackle complex housing topics through rigorous case studies and solution proposals. Out of 30 submissions, Rui stood out to the judging panel with a forward-thinking proposal to revolutionize estate management. His winning strategy integrates cutting-edge technologies like IoT, AI, robotics and drones to enhance safety, streamline maintenance and elevate the overall living experience for residents. Rui shared, “I believe the greatest value of PropTech lies not merely in enhancing efficiency but in leveraging fault warnings and predictive management to shift estate management from a 'reactive' to a 'preventive' approach. My ultimate goal is to elevate the resident experience, improve service quality and promote aging in place.” Congratulations to Rui on this well-deserved recognition!

A career talk by the Rating and Valuation Department (RVD) of the HKSAR Government was held for BRE final-year students in January 2026. Prof. Ivy WONG, Award Co-ordinator of the BSc (Hons) in Surveying programme and Prof. Michael SING, Assistant Professor of BRE, warmly welcomed the RVD representatives. The talk provided students with comprehensive information on career opportunities in the surveying profession and valuable insights into the industry trends. Students from Ning Po No. 2 College were introduced to a range of our academic offerings and career opportunities available in construction and real estate during their visit to BRE in January 2026. Our team highlighted how innovative technologies are reshaping the industry and its professional landscape. The students also had the chance to interact with immersive virtual and augmented reality experiences through our Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) System and Motion Platform, as well as to discover the practical uses of Building Information Modelling.
