《In Loving Memory of Dr Stephen AU Ling Ming, DIREC Graduate》 We honour the memory of Dr Stephen AU Ling Ming, a distinguished and beloved member of the BRE family who recently passed away. Dr Au’s history with PolyU came full circle over the years. Beginning with a Higher Diploma in Applied Science from the then Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1982, he reached the pinnacle of his academic journey with our Doctor of International Real Estate and Construction (DIREC) programme in 2025. Dr Au embodied the spirit of lifelong learning. As a recipient of the 2017 Outstanding PolyU Alumni Award, Dr Au was a role model for our students and alumni alike. He was widely respected for his professional achievements and commitment to serving the community with integrity. We are proud to count him among our graduates and his legacy will continue to inspire those within the BRE family. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.

《Outstanding Alumni Award of PolyU Faculty of Construction and Environment 2025 Award Presentation Ceremony & Spring Dinner》 The Faculty of Construction and Environment (FCE) hosted its Outstanding Alumni Award Presentation Ceremony 2025 and Spring Dinner in February. It was a momentous evening to honour the outstanding graduates and celebrate the Chinese New Year with alumni, staff and students. One of the evening’s highlights was witnessing Sr Dr James TSUI Siu Lung, MH receive the Outstanding Alumni Award from Prof. LI Xiang-dong, the Faculty Dean. Sr Dr Tsui is a distinguished graduate whose academic journey with PolyU spans decades from his Bachelor of Science in Building Surveying in 1992 to his Doctor of International Real Estate and Construction (DIREC) in 2024. Mr CHEN Rui Wins Rising Changemaker Prize from HKHS

《Mr CHEN Rui Wins Rising Changemaker Prize from HKHS》 Mr CHEN Rui, our BSc (Hons) Surveying student, has won the Rising Changemaker Prize organised by the Hong Kong Housing Society (HKHS). At the award presentation ceremony, Prof. LING Kar Kan, HKHS Chairman and PolyU’s Senior Advisor to the President, highlighted that the first-ever Rising Changemaker Prize aimed to challenge students to tackle complex housing topics through rigorous case studies and solution proposals. Out of 30 submissions, Rui stood out to the judging panel with a forward-thinking proposal to revolutionize estate management. His winning strategy integrates cutting-edge technologies like IoT, AI, robotics and drones to enhance safety, streamline maintenance and elevate the overall living experience for residents. Rui shared, “I believe the greatest value of PropTech lies not merely in enhancing efficiency but in leveraging fault warnings and predictive management to shift estate management from a 'reactive' to a 'preventive' approach. My ultimate goal is to elevate the resident experience, improve service quality and promote aging in place.” Congratulations to Rui on this well-deserved recognition!

A career talk by the Rating and Valuation Department (RVD) of the HKSAR Government was held for BRE final-year students in January 2026. Prof. Ivy WONG, Award Co-ordinator of the BSc (Hons) in Surveying programme and Prof. Michael SING, Assistant Professor of BRE, warmly welcomed the RVD representatives. The talk provided students with comprehensive information on career opportunities in the surveying profession and valuable insights into the industry trends. The students also gained an understanding of the essential skills needed for success in rating and valuation which help advance their academic and professional development.

Our team highlighted how innovative technologies are reshaping the industry and its professional landscape. The students also had the chance to interact with immersive virtual and augmented reality experiences through our Cave Automatic Virtual Environment (CAVE) System and Motion Platform, as well as to discover the practical uses of Building Information Modelling.
