Programme Aims
This Minor programme is created to help students acquire a basic understanding of the evolution of science and technology in Chinese and global history as well as the history and impact of the scientific and technological interactions between China and other regions throughout history.
Designed to complement major programmes offered in other departments in PolyU, the programme will also help students attain a better understanding of the diverse aspects of China’s long history, especially the role of science and technology in the making of both historical and contemporary China.
The specific aims of the programme are to:
- develop students’ perspectives on critical issues related to the evolution of science and technology in China;
- deepen students’ understanding of Chinese history and culture, especially the role of science and technology in the making of historical and contemporary China;
- enhance students’ understanding of the interactions between China and the world throughout history and their impact;
- reinforce students’ written and verbal communication skills in a bilingual learning environment

18 credits (at least 9 credits must be at level 3 or above)
Subject to departmental approval, students may count up to 6 credits of the CAR subjects offered by the Department of Chinese History and Culture from the minor subject list.

Entrance Requirement
To be eligible for a Minor, you must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 or above at the time of application for Minor enrolment.
The Minor application period normally begins after the announcement of overall results for Semester Two of Year One. Your CGPA at the end of Semester Two of Year One will be used to determine your eligibility. If you are interested in pursuing a Minor, please submit your application via eStudent > Application Forms > (AR147) Application for Minor during the designated application period.
