Chinese Textile History, Silk Art and the Silk Road, Sino-Western Material Culture

Biography

Shi Liu is a researcher specializing in Chinese textile history, Silk art and the Silk Road, Sino-Western material culture exchange. Her primary research focuses on silk and the Silk Road during the Mongol Period, with a monograph in progress. She is also conducting research on Qing Dynasty textile and Chinese export silk.

She works for Joint Chinese Textile Centre established by The Hong Kong Palace Museum and PolyU, dedicated to the research, teaching, exhibition, and public promotion of Chinese textiles. Professionally, she contributes to the globally collaborative project A Comprehensive Collection of Chinese Silks, where she conducts studies on Chinese silk collections in European and American museums. Additionally, she leads the translation project Scientific Researches on Textile Archaeology in China, facilitating the global dissemination of scholarly work on Chinese ancient textiles.
