Building Technology Laboratory

On the teaching front, students can learn the various techniques, such as manipulative, observational and analytical, through laboratory work. They can also learn how to conduct a proper experimental investigation and to use the modern instrumentation technology for experimentation. Through hand-on practical laboratory experiment approach, students can learn how their theoretical learning and technological ideas are applied to practical real world.
The laboratory provides demonstration classes and hands-on building technological experiments on structural mechanics, concrete testing and non-destructive techniques for building diagnostics and inspection. Computer-based learning and simulation software like Matlab and ANSYS have also contributed to the teaching and learning of temporary formwork and false work design, scaffolding and excavation techniques, reinforced concrete beam and column design etc.

Centre for Infrastructure Delivery (CeIDE)

The Centre for Infrastructure Delivery (CeIDE) is dedicated to advancing innovative solutions for sustainable and resilient infrastructure. The mission is to foster collaboration among researchers, industry experts, and policymakers to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of infrastructure projects, globally.
CeIDE focuses on key areas such as sustainable practices, smart technologies, and innovative financing models. By bridging the gap between research and practice, CeIDE aims to drive impactful change in infrastructure delivery.
This initiative is not only timely but also strategically significant. It aims to support Hong Kong's construction sector in effectively managing the surge in infrastructure development while fostering continuous enhancements in project delivery. Importantly, it seeks to strengthen Hong Kong’s position in sustainable and innovative infrastructure development, both within the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and beyond.

Ng Wing Hong Laboratory for Sustainable City
This Laboratory aims to create a high-level laboratory providing information technology infrastructure for examining the sustainable development of Hong Kong at the building and city level. The Laboratory facilitates the archival, processing and retrival of databases and information in mutlimedia formats. It operates at the highest international standards and is recognised as an international leader in the fields, which enables it to take advantage of the new technologies that support its contribution to knowledge. It seeks to partner with others within the university and in the external environment (including industry and other universities) to address the complex issues faced in the built environment.

Smart Infrastructure Management Systems Laboratory
The mission of SIMS is to foster world class excellence in research, training and technology transfer activities in the important area of sustainable civil infrastructure. The emphasis is on the research and development of effective design, rehabilitation, and management strategies. The strategic research activities will address a timely need in Hong Kong and the mainland China, in addition to its international leadership, in pressing problems such as: deteriorating infrastructure, response to extreme loading events, effective design, and resource management and sustainability. The following schematic diagram shows the interaction of the three main themes of SIMS: Design, Rehabilitation, and Management.
