Biography
Xingyu Tao is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Building and Real Estate at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He obtained his bachelor's and master's degrees from Chongqing University, where he focused on Cyber-Physical System (CPS)-based construction carbon management. Prior to joining BRE, Dr. Tao served as a Research Assistant Professor at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), where he also earned his PhD and gained postdoctoral research experience. He has also been a visiting scholar at Monash University and Tsinghua University, further broadening his academic and research perspectives. Dr. Tao’s research centers on construction digitalisation, decentralised BIM collaboration, blockchain-enabled construction data security, and human-robot collaboration. His contributions have been recognised both locally and internationally, with prestigious awards such as the international buildingSMART Award, CIC Construction Digitalization Award, and Common Data Environment Award (CDEA). Beyond academic achievements, his research has had practical impacts, including its implementation in landmark projects such as the BIM collaboration design for the Kai Tak Sports Park and the Digital Twin for the HKUST campus.
