SMART Mobility - Social Innovation Inventor – Design Competition 2022/23, jointly organized by the World Green Organisation (WGO) and the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, concluded with a successful awards ceremony. The event celebrated the innovative ideas and designs proposed by secondary and tertiary students in the field of smart mobility.

 

The ceremony was graced by the presence of distinguished officiating guests, recognizing the importance of the event. Among them were:

  • Mr. Liu Chun San, JP, Under Secretary for the Transport and Logistics Bureau
  • Mr. Rico Chan, WGO Board Member, Former Head of APAC Sales, Yahoo
  • Mr. Albert Oung, President and Chairman, World Green Organisation
  • Ir Dr. Wong Ling Tim, Associate Head (Partnership) and Associate Professor of the Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University

These esteemed individuals brought prestige and expertise to the ceremony, embodying the significance of the occasion.

Furthermore, the prizes were presented by notable individuals who added to the grandeur of the event. They included:

  • Mr. Lo Kwok Yau, Director – Corporate Affairs (External Relations), CLP Power Hong Kong Limited
  • Mr. Zhao Rong, Chairman and CEO, Delta Metal (Holdings) Limited
  • Mr. Michael Ng, Chief Executive Officer, Karin Group
  • Mr. Kwok Chun Sing, Chairman of HK Recycling Chamber of Commerce

These presenters played an integral role in acknowledging and honoring the outstanding students who showcased exceptional creativity and problem-solving skills throughout the competition.

 

In addition to the aforementioned officiating guests and prize presenters, the ceremony was also attended by esteemed guests, including:

  • Mr. Tony Williamson, Chief Operating Officer, Bravo Transport
  • Prof. Shauhrat Chopra, Assistant Professor, School of Energy and Environment, City University of Hong Kong
  • Mr. Hong Tsz Lam Samuel, Lecturer, Li Ka Shing School of Professional and Continuing Education, Hong Kong Metropolitan University

These distinguished guests brought valuable insights and expertise to the event, further enriching the ceremony and demonstrating the widespread support and interest in sustainable transportation initiatives.

 

The competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from several secondary schools and tertiary institutions. Secondary school students were challenged to design an intelligent charging station for the artificial island in Chek Lap Kok, while tertiary students were tasked with designing a public transportation interchange and proposing a comprehensive plan for an intelligent and green transportation network.

 

After a rigorous selection process, the champions in the secondary school and tertiary student categories were announced. The team from Diocesan Boys' School emerged victorious in the secondary school category, showcasing their remarkable talent and innovative thinking. In the tertiary student category, the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education secured the top position, impressing the judges with their comprehensive plan for an intelligent and sustainable transportation network.

 

Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering expressed its hope that this competition would inspire students to develop cutting-edge designs and ideas for implementing zero-carbon transportation solutions. The competition aimed to encourage the younger generation to actively contribute to the development of a sustainable and eco-friendly transportation system.

The SMART Mobility - Social Innovation Inventor – Design Competition 2022/23 not only provided a platform for young minds to showcase their creativity but also contributed to the advancement of smart and sustainable transportation solutions. WGO and Department of Building Environment and Energy Engineering will continue to foster such initiatives to promote environmental consciousness and innovation in the future.
