APSS Entry Scholarship for Self-financed Taught Postgraduate Programmes

The APSS Entry Scholarship for Self-financed Taught Postgraduate Programmes recognises exceptional students admitted to master’s level programmes. Recipients are nominated based on their admission performance and academic excellence. The scholarship provides a one-time award ranging from HK$10,000 to HK$80,000. The availability and award arrangement of the scholarship are subject to regular review. Nominations and awards are made at the discretion of the Department.

Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies

The Master of Social Work (MSW) programme is one of the approved programmes under the Hong Kong Future Talents Scholarship Scheme for Advanced Studies (FTSS) for the 2025/26 and 2026/27 academic years, established by the Hong Kong SAR Government to attract meritorious local students to pursue further studies in areas of strategic priority for the development of Hong Kong.

Under the Scheme, scholarship awardees are only required to pay a minimum tuition fee being the prevailing rate of the UGC-funded full-time degree programmes (i.e., HK$44,500 for 2025/26 academic year and HK$47,000 for 2026/27 academic year). The differences will be subsidised by the scholarships subject to a cap of HK$100,000 for each student, regardless of the actual study period of the programme and mode of study.

In the 2025/26 academic year, the University Grants Committee allocated 180 scholarship places to PolyU across 22 approved programmes, and the MSW programme successfully secured scholarships for 25 admitted MSW students. For the 2026/27 academic year, PolyU has again been allocated 180 scholarship places across 25 approved programmes, with the nomination results for individual programmes pending.

Prospective applicants for the 2027/28 intake are encouraged to consider the MSW programme as a pathway to advanced professional training in social work. While the MSW programme successfully secured FTSS scholarships for 25 students admitted in 2025/26, its inclusion as an approved programme under the Scheme for the 2027/28 and 2028/29 academic years has yet to be confirmed. Any scholarship support, if available, will be subject to the programme’s approved status under the Scheme, programme nomination, and review and approval by the relevant parties.

Post-entry Scholarship: Dame Eileen Younghusband Memorial Prize

In addition to entry scholarships, MSW students may also be considered for post-entry scholarships and prizes during their studies at PolyU. From time to time, a number of private organisations, firms, professional bodies and individuals donate to PolyU scholarships and prizes which are awarded to students with outstanding academic and/or non-academic achievements (such as achievements in extra-curricular activities and community services) during their studies at PolyU. The Dame Eileen Younghusband Memorial Prize is one of the post-entry scholarships available to MSW students. Eligible student(s) will be nominated by the department via the Student Affairs Office, subject to the relevant selection criteria and approval procedures.
