Professor WANG Tao

Associate Director of University Facility for Chemical and Environmental Analysis
Chair Professor of Atmospheric Environment

  • Founding Fellow of Hong Kong Institute of Qualified Environmental Professionals
  • Project Coordinator of RGC Theme-based Research Scheme Funded Project

Professor Wang is an atmospheric scientist. His research focuses on the root causes of air pollution using experimental and numerical tools. His research advances understanding of atmospheric physical and chemical processes and impact of human-nature interaction on air quality. His research results have been adopted in the United Nation’s climate assessment reports and international tropospheric ozone research, and have facilitated the Hong Kong and Mainland China government to develop air pollution mitigation measures in Hong Kong, the Greater Bay Area, and other regions of China.
Professor Wang served as the chief scientist for a National Basic Research Program (973 program) project during 2005-2010 and the project coordinator for a Hong Kong Research Grants Council’s Theme-based Research Scheme project during 2018-2023. He received the Second-Class Awards from the Ministry of Education (2009 and 2022) and Ministry of Ecology and Environment (2010 and 2022), and the PolyU President’s Awards for Excellent Achievements in Research and Scholarly Activities (2017/2018).

Professor Wang is an advisor to the Ozone Pollution Control Professional Committee (as a vice chair during 2019-2024) and is currently a vice chair of the Atmospheric Environment Division of the Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences. He is the chair of China Working Group of International Global Atmospheric Chemistry Project (IGAC) and an editor for an international journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.
