ACHIEVEMENTS AND RECOGNITION

Three SHTM faculty members were recently rewarded for excellent performance in their fields.

  • Dr Basak Denizci Guillet received an SHTM Teaching Excellence Award for her proactive and student-centred philosophy using a wide range of active learning methodologies.


  • Professor Rob Law, the author and co-author of 105 refereed papers in a variety of prestigious international journals, received an SHTM Research Excellence Award.


  • Professor Cathy Hsu received an SHTM Service Excellence Award for her dedicated service to professional bodies and her active participation in various fields, which has enhanced the School's image.


SHTM faculty members also received awards at the 4th International Tourism Studies Association Biennial Conference in Bali, Indonesia on 23-25 August 2012. Dr Kam Hung received a Best Paper Award for her paper entitled "Understanding the Mindset of Travelers in Developing Buddhism Themed Hotels". Dr Mimi Li received a Conference Chair Award certificate.

At the same conference, Professor Kaye Chon and Dr Simon Song, our Ph.D. graduate received a Research Grant from the National Science Fund of the People"s Republic of China for a project on "Development and Validation of the Measurement Model of Visitors" Perceived Tourism Destination Image: The Case of Hainan Island".

Mr Kong Kei-koi, a year-one student in the BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management programme, won bronze medals in the men's group A 100 and 200 metre freestyle events at the 9th National University Games of the People's Republic of China in Tianjin on 8-18 September 2012.



Professor Rob Law was honoured with the 2012 Outstanding Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research Reviewer Award and Cornell Hospitality Quarterly Outstanding Reviewer Award for his outstanding contributions.
