Professor Kaye Chon attended the 17th Annual Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism in Auburn, Alabama, USA on 5-7 January 2012.

Dr Wilco Chan presented a paper entitled "Experimental Studies on Multi-Functional Modes of Heat Pump" at the 4th International Symposium on Heat Transfer and Energy Conservation in Guangzhou, China on 6-9 January 2012.

Professor Kaye Chon attended the Ulysses Foundation meeting in Taiwan on 13-14 January 2012.

A number of SHTM staff members and students, including Professor Rob Law, Dr Norman Au, Dr Ada Lo, Mr Joey Wu, Mr Julian Ayeh, Mr Daniel Leung and Ms Rosanna Leung attended the 19th International Conference on Information Technology and Travel & Tourism ENTER 2012 in Helsingborg, Sweden on 24-27 January 2012. Professor Law, Dr Lo and Mr Wu co-presented a paper entitled "A Study of Hospitality and Travel-Related Deals on Hong Kong Group-buying Websites". Professor Law, Dr Au, Mr Ayeh and Mr Leung co-presented a paper entitled "Perceptions and Strategies of Hospitality and Tourism Practitioners on Social Media: An Exploratory Study". Professor Law and Ms Leung co-presented a paper entitled "Hotel Information Exposure in Cyberspace: The Case of Hong Kong".

Professor Haiyan Song and Professor Cathy Hsu attended the CAUTHE National Conference 2012 in Melbourne, Australia on 6-9 February 2012. Professor Song presented a paper entitled "A Critical Review of Recent Developments in Tourism Economics". Professor Hsu spoke on "The Roles of Entrepreneurs' Political Ties: Indications from Economy Hotel Chains in China".

Professor Kaye Chon attended the 2nd meeting of the Aga Khan University Graduate School of Leisure and Tourism Thinking Group in Nairobi, Kenya on 16-17 February 2012.

Dr Wilco Chan presented a paper entitled "Hotel Chillers: Power Consumption Modeling and Energy Improvement" at the 3rd Conference on Engineering and Business Management in Shanghai, China on 26-28 March 2012.
