Professor Kaye Chon gave a presentation on "Leadership in Hospitality and Service Quality" at the Hong Kong Jockey Club retreat on 20 July 2010.

Dr John Ap attended the International Conference on Sustainable Tourism, hosted by the University of Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania, on 10-11 August 2010.

A number of SHTM staff attended the 8th APacCHRIE Conference 2010 in Phuket, Thailand, on 12-14 August 2010. As one of the keynote speakers, Professor Kaye Chon spoke about "Hospitality and Tourism Education in Asia and Pacific: Towards Co-creation of Value and Visions". The following faculty members presented papers at the conference.

  • Professor Haiyan Song and Dr Robert van der Veen co-presented a paper entitled "Hong Kong Tourist Satisfaction Index"
  • Professor Adele Ladkin presented two papers entitled "The Relationship between Creativity and Organisational Climate among Hotel Employees in Hong Kong: A Canonical Analysis Approach" and "Exploring the Chinese Tourism Curriculum: A Case Study of Guilin Institute of Tourism, China"
  • Dr Hanqin Zhang presented a paper entitled "The Impact of Industry Force Factors on Resource Competitive Strategies and Hotel Performance"
  • Dr Qu Xiao presented a paper entitled "From Top Executives to Departmental Managers: A Comparative Study of Strategic Issues Perceived by Hotel Corporate Executive and General Managers"
  • Mr Patrick Lee presented a paper entitled "Staff Perception on I.T. Training and Supports in the Hong Kong Hotel Industry"
  • Ms Clare Fung presented a paper entitled "H1N1 Outbreak: How Metropark Hotel turns Crisis into Opportunities"
  • Ms Alisa Chan presented a paper entitled "When Competency-Based Pay Relates to Employee Creativity: The Moderating Roles of Employees' Achievement and Power Needs"
  • Ms Anne Tang presented a paper entitled "Are Tertiary Hospitality Teachers Stressful in Their Jobs? A Case Study in Hong Kong"

Professor Kaye Chon was invited to attend the AmCham luncheon organised by the American Chamber of Commerce in Hong Kong at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel on 10 September 2010. Professor Chon gave a presentation on the topic "Education is the Foundation: Shaping the Hospitality and Tourism Industry in Asia". Professor Chon also gave a presentation on "Leadership in Service" at Hong Kong Disneyland Leadership Event 2010, Hong Kong, on 15 September.

Professor Kaye Chon chaired a panel session entitled "CEO Forum: International and Local Hotel Group Executives Round-table Conference" at the 3rd Asia Hotel Forum International Hotel Investment Summit in Shanghai, China, on 16-17 September 2010.

Professor Kaye Chon was a keynote speaker and spoke on "Service Industry Leadership in Hospitality and Tourism: Experiences from Asia" at the Education and Industry Advancing Together (EIAT) 2010 Conference in Belgrade, Serbia, on 24-26 September.

Professor Kaye Chon delivered a speech on "Preparing Tourism Business for Mega Trends" at the World Tourism Conference 2010: Tourism Success Stories and Rising Stars in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, on 4-6 October.

Dr Vincent Heung presented a paper entitled "The Effects of Brand Relationship Quality on Hotel Consumers' Responses to Service Failure" at the IABE 2010 Las Vegas Annual Conference in Las Vegas, USA, on 17-20 October 2010.

Professor Cathy Hsu attended the ISTTE 2010 Annual Conference "Education Across the Waters: Expanding the Boundaries of Tourism and Hospitality" as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Teaching in Travel and Tourism at Long Beach and Calalina Island, USA and Ensenada, Mexico, on 18-22 October 2010.
