The SHTM this year held its second Industry Appreciation Dinner, with 340
industry partners, final-year students and staff members in attendance. Held
at the Hotel Miramar, the event was designed to thank our industry partners
for their generosity in providing scholarships, student placements, Professor-for-a-Day
lectures, mentorships and valuable advice throughout the year.
Ms Sylvia Chung, Member of the University Council and Chairman of the SHTM
Advisory Committee, and Professor Kaye Chon, Chair Professor and Director
of the SHTM welcomed our guests with opening addresses.
During the dinner, 11 final-year students
from both undergraduate and MSc programmes spoke about their experiences
of international exchange, industry placement and postgraduate study in the
SHTM. The common theme of these talks was their appreciation for the opportunity
to work in or with industry. The most important element of their student
experience, they said, was the development of international and intercultural
understanding. It is this sort of appreciation of and collaboration with
different cultures that these students will take with them into the workplace
and, ultimately, into the world – and it was all made possible with the generous
support of our industry partners. For this, the SHTM is most grateful.
