Mr Henry Tuen Chun Tung, a BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management student, and Ms Wa Chi Wong, a BSc(Hons) in Hotel Management student, won first and third places, respectively, in an open competition for papers submitted to the World Tourism Forum. The Forum will be held in Lucern, Switzerland from 22 to 24 April 2009 and the two students will be invited to present their papers. Mr Tung will present a paper on "The Impacts of Low Cost Carriers' Entry on International Tourism Demand" and Mr Wong will present a paper on "The Impact of the Airline Service Encounter on Customer Satisfaction and Customer Value".
Dr Hanqin Zhang and her PhD student Ms Wendy Gao won the Best Paper Award at EuroCHRIE 2008 held in Dubai on 11-14 October 2008 for the paper entitled "The Effect of Cognitive Spatial and Temporal Distance in the Creation of Tourist Space".
Ms Ching Yi Cheung, a 2008 BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management graduate, received a Sonca Products Gold Medal Award 2008. Sponsored by Sonca Products Limited, these awards are given each year to ten PolyU students who excel in their studies, sports and community service.
Ms Hei Man Lau, BSc(Hons) in Tourism Management student, won a Bronze Medal in the Women's Sabre Individual (Elite Division) of the 14th All China University Fencing Championship held in Zhuhai on 10-14 November last year.
