This office and The Hong Kong Occupational Safety & Health Association will jointly organize a safety seminar on "Managing Workplace Stress in Hong Kong"

Professor SIU Oi-ling, Professor and Head of Department of Sociology and Social Policy, Lingnan University.

Prof. Siu Oi-ling iFull Professor of Behavioural Science and Head of Department of Sociology and Social Policy in Lingnan University, Hong Kong, and a Guest Professor at the Graduate School of Chinese Academy of Sciences, P.R China. She received PhD in organizational psychology from The University of Liverpool.She serves as Editorial Member of International Journal of Stress Management.  Prof. Siu has extensive teaching, research and consultancy experience in occupational health psychology, specifically in occupational stress, safety, work-life balance, and older workersShe has publications in Psychology & Aging, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Personnel Psychology, International Journal of Stress Management, Stress and Health, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Occupational Health Psychology, Social Science & Medicine, Accident Analysis & Prevention, and Journal of Safety Research.

Prof. Siu will first briefly present the prevalence rate of perceived work stress in different occupational groups in Hong Kong, and the costs of work stress in modern societies including monetary terms, work well-being, job performance and safety performance. Prof. Siu will then discuss the potential sources of stress in the workplace and the effects of work stress. Based on her previous research evidence, Prof. Siu will discuss a number of significant stress moderators. Some effective ways of coping with workplace stress will also be introduced to the participants.

Language: Cantonese is the primary medium of instruction and English terms are used where applicable.

Attendance Certificate: The seminar is free of charge and attendance certificate will be issued to members of HKOSHA and PolyU Staff/Student upon completion of the Seminar.  No certificate will be issued to those who arrived after 7:15 pm.
