Dear all students and staff,  You may have already been aware of the Earth Hour Campaign through the mass media. This is the third year in which PolyU takes part in this global campaign launched by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). We continue to support this meaningful event with a view to arousing more public concern about climate change due to greenhouse gas emissions. The Earth Hour Campaign is more than switching off lights for one hour once a year. It is all about giving people a voice on the future of our planet and working together to create a sustainable low-carbon future.  Earth Hour 2011 will be held this year on 26 March (this Saturday) from 8:30 pm to 9:30 pm. PolyU will switch off most non-essential lighting during this period. In addition, we would like to invite you to support this campaign personally in the following areas:

(1)   Turn off unnecessary lighting at your office or home during that period of time
(2)  Tell your families, friends, and everyone you know about Earth Hour and support this event
(3)   Start to live a sustainable lifestyle by (as recommended by WWF) :

·  switching off electrical appliances’ standby mode
·  sourcing sustainable timber and using paper wisely
·  stopping to consume shark fin products
·  choosing sustainable seafood
·  thinking twice before consuming
·  reducing waste

With your active participation, we wish this campaign every success in leading Hong Kong towards developing a sustainable community. For more information about this event, please visit http://apps.wwf.org.hk/earthhour/en/2011.php
