PolyU awarded Energywi$e Certificate

27 Aug 2021

The Energywi$e Certificate is to recognise companies and organisations for their commitment to and efforts in environmental protection through energy conservation. It is a prestigious certification scheme with high credibility. Becoming an Energywi$e Certificate holder means entering into a partnership with the government to achieve common environmental objectives. Efforts of Energywi$e Certificate holders are well commended by the Environmental Campaign Committee (ECC) through publicity and marketing activities, and also widely recognised by other Environmental Protection Award Programmes and Schemes such as the BEAM Plus Scheme, Caring Company Scheme, CLP Smart Energy Award, and Low-carbon Office Operation Programme.

There are three levels of the Energywi$e Certificate, namely basic, good and excellent, depending on the extent of achievement of the measures. This year, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University is awarded the highest level – the Excellent level of the Energywi$e Certificate, and that utterly shows PolyU’s exceptional leadership in the environmental arena to promote energy efficiency.

PolyU awarded Energywi$e Certificate – Excellent Level

Over the years, PolyU’s professors and researchers have been actively involved in numerous sustainability related projects, focussing ways to minimise energy use. Many of these projects have been honoured with international acclaim at various awards and competitions. In addition, PolyU is proud to have established a campus that embraces sustainable principles and steadfastly adheres to practices that drive energy efficiency. The University has won many recognitions including the Peak Demand Management Excellence Award (SME/NGO/Education Institute) of the CLP Smart Energy Award, which acknowledge the enormous contribution that PolyU has made over the past years in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements.

PolyU controls electricity use on campus prudently by properly maintaining its facilities, implementing the latest environmental technologies, as well as monitoring and assessing campus operations and practices. While the University strives to take every action to reduce emissions and manage costs, it also implements different campaigns and activities on campus to educate and empower students, faculty, and staff to do the same.
