Expanding awareness throughout the PolyU campus staff and student population is the key to ensuring the success of campus sustainability development. PolyU has abundant resources and communication channels, supplemented with regular green programmes and activities, offer the opportunity for increased student and community member involvement.

An interactive map (Green Map) which consists details of the green elements in PolyU is available online. Users can obtain a wide range of green information on PolyU campus easily on the Internet such as the locations of drinking fountains, recycling facilities and catering outlets with BYO discount.

 

 

Campus Greenery and Tree Appreciation

 

Campus Greenery and Tree Appreciation

PolyU has been proactively planted about 600 trees and around 10,000 shrubs on campus. The University encourages the entire campus community to look around, explore and appreciate trees which are central to PolyU’s sustainability practices. A tree signage and tree tags with QR codes supported by an interactive web-based tree map are available to offer an unprecedented level of tree information on campus.  Greenery is also integrated into building design to improve aesthetic appeal and psychological health.

 

Green Officer Network

 

Green Officer Network

A Green Officer is nominated by the Head in every department and unit is responsible for driving green practices and promoting environmental awareness at departmental level, and to improve environmental performances in workplaces. Regular training, gatherings, sharing sessions and visits are arranged for Green Officers to enhance their awareness and skills in building a Greener Office.

A campus farming programme is designed for students and staff, providing them with the unique and intrinsic opportunity to become the “PolyU farmers”. They are able to experience and acquire the skills of urban farming and to captivate the essence of sustainable living.

Large-scale Promotional Activities and Educational Campaigns

Promotional activities and educational campaigns are frequently arranged on campus from 2009 onwards. Since 2013, the PolyU Campus Sustainability Weeks are organized annually to provide participants with a knowledge and experience platform on sustainability through an array of activities.
