This three session workshop series aims to provide participants with an overview of and some hands-on practice in developing marking rubrics as related to different types of assessment.

  • Part 1 reviews common types and purposes of assessment in universities, introduces various types of marking rubrics, and discusses how the setting of performance criteria and scales contributes to clear distinction between grades.
  • Part 2 (two sessions) illustrates with examples how to develop and adopt marking rubrics for specific types of assessment. It also will engage the participants in some hands-on activities.

At the end of this workshop series, participants will develop a deeper understanding of marking rubrics as related to assessment tasks and take home some practical examples for developing and adopting marking rubrics for common types of assessment.

Colleagues are highly encouraged to bring along relevant subject assessment tasks and rubrics for hands-on practice and discussion.

This workshop series is co-organised by the Working Group on Subject Quality Assurance and the Educational Development Centre.
