The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) today (22 November 2018) conferred the title of University Fellowship on nine outstanding individuals in recognition of their significant contributions to the University and community.
Presided over by Mr Chan Tze-ching, Chairman of the University Council, the conferment ceremony was held at the Jockey Club Auditorium on PolyU campus. The recipients were warmly greeted by PolyU President, Professor Timothy W. Tong and other senior staff members of the University. The fellowship recipients are (in alphabetical order of last name):
Dr Sunny Chai, BBS
Dr Sunny Chai, Group Managing Director of Fook Tin Group Holdings Limited, is a highly successful entrepreneur. Dedicated to serving the community, he has committed to numerous public duties including, Chairman of Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation, Deputy Chairman of Federation of Hong Kong Industries, Committee Member of Chongqing Chinese Political Consultative Conference and more. Dr Chai has a close affinity with PolyU and is currently Chairman of Departmental Advisory Committee of Industrial and Systems Engineering Department.
Mr Chan Kam-lam, GBS, JP
Mr Chan Kam-lam is President of Kingrich Asia Holdings Limited and Kingrich Trading Limited, and Director of Shenyang Wuai World Enterprise Company Limited. A leading political figure, he had been a member of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong for over 20 years. His dedication to the business community and public service has earned him great respect. Mr Chan has contributed significantly to the development of PolyU, he was a Council Member and currently a Court Member of PolyU.
Dr Edward Chan Kwok-man
Dr Edward Chan Kwok-man, Founder and Managing Director of German Pool (Hong Kong) Company Limited, is a highly successful homegrown industrialist. He is proactive in taking up public duties and dedicated to advancing local industry growth. In 2011, Dr Chan co-established the Promoting Happiness Index Foundation, through which he advocates the concept of happy workplace and healthy living. Dr Chan is also a keen supporter of education, he is currently the President of CEO Club at PolyU.
Mr Jimmy Kwok Chun-wah, SBS, MH, JP
Mr Jimmy Kwok Chun-wah, Managing Director of Rambo Chemicals in Hong Kong, is an outstanding chemist and successful industrialist. He is determined to give back to society through his involvement in various public duties. Under his leadership as Chairman, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries has played an active role in enhancing the competitiveness of Hong Kong industry. An esteemed member of PolyU community, Mr Kwok was a Council Member and is currently a Court Member of PolyU.
Dr Ng Chi-ho
Dr Ng Chi-ho, Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of Suga International Holdings Limited, is a leading electronic engineer and astute businessman. He contributes to industry development by playing various leading and advisory roles in public service. He strongly advocates entrepreneurship and innovation and is an angel investor for emerging businesses. Dr Ng is a keen supporter of PolyU both through donations and by serving on the Advisory Committee of the Department of Electronic and Information Engineering.
Mr Richard Sun Po-yuen, JP
Mr Richard Sun Po-yuen is a Hong Kong Certified Public Accountant and a veteran and distinguished capital market professional. He became a Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1996. He is an enthusiastic participant in public services and has contributed greatly to his profession, education and charity. Devoted to supporting his alma mater, he was elected an Outstanding PolyU Alumnus in 2013. He is currently Honorary Life Member of PolyU Foundation and Honorary Treasurer of Outstanding PolyU Alumni Association.
Dr Elizabeth Wang Ming-chun, SBS
Dr Elizabeth Wang Ming-chun is one of the most popular and famous performing artists of our time. She has long been in the limelight for her versatile performance across various media. She is also committed to serving in public duties. Her pivotal contributions towards the revival of Cantonese opera is particularly notable. She is the first lady Chairman of Chinese Artists Association of Hong Kong. Her resounding successes and contributions have brought her numerous accolades and awards throughout her career.
Mr Eric C. Yim, JP
Mr Eric C. Yim is Founder of POSH Office Systems (HK) Limited, a Cambridge-trained architect and an internationally recognised furniture designer. Mr Yim serves a multitude of public roles dedicated to advancing the development of design sector in Hong Kong. He also fervently supports education. He generously established an endowed professorship in inclusive design at PolyU in 2013. He is currently a Court Member, Honorary Life President of PolyU Foundation and Chairman of School-Industry Advisory Committee on Design at PolyU.
Dr Lunlun Zou
Dr Lunlun Zou is an internationally acclaimed Guzheng virtuoso. She regularly holds concerts at prestigious venues worldwide but she is also enthusiastic in performing for charities. Despite her fame and success on world stage, Dr Zou is dedicated to educating young people in Hong Kong and globally. Her aim is to pass on the guzheng art as well as to promote Chinese culture. Dr Zou was the first instrumentalist to receive the World Outstanding Chinese Artist Award in 2015.
Since its introduction in 2000, PolyU has conferred University Fellowship on a total of 120 distinguished persons.
