Description / Introduction:

For a large class in a STEM related discipline, the implementation of the simple “question and answer” active teaching strategy can be cumbersome, due to the fact that special symbols, equations or diagrams might be required to better communicate the question, answer or comment. In the seminar, Dr. Fridolin Ting from the Department of Applied Mathematics of PolyU described concrete situations where this problem arises in various STEM related disciplines, and presented both pedagogical and technological solutions. He also discussed problem based learning and how it could be enhanced with drawing and / or writing activities in a large class.
