QEF Project - Department of Applied Mathematics

Overview

How to enhance students’ learning interests when it comes to solving complicated and abstract mathematics problems? PolyU secured a HK$2 million funding from the Quality Education Fund to launch a two-year “Pedagogic and Active Learning Mobile Solutions" (PALMS) Project in the coming academic year, expecting to benefit about 4,000 junior secondary school students.

The PolyU PALMS project team will utilise three PolyU-developed mobile applications to tailor-make lesson plans for junior secondary school teachers of participating schools, integrating active learning with technology. Differing from traditional teacher-oriented pedagogies, PALMS’ approach can increase student engagement and discussions during lessons and help to stimulate students’ interest in mathematics and improve their learning outcomes.
