Virtual CHE Workshop
Hosted by the SHTM, a Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE) Workshop leading to professional recognition was held online on 7-12 January 2021. The workshop was led by Dr Fred Mayo on behalf of the School and the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute.

This year, the CHE programme featured five exclusively developed sessions lasting for 3.5 hours each. The workshop's 22 participants had the opportunity to network with other educators to discuss and put into practice the latest teaching principles and skills, seeking to provide the best possible educational experience for hospitality students worldwide.

Whilst every hospitality educator can benefit from the continuing education and professional development opportunities offered by the CHE programme, its focus on interactive teaching skills is especially useful for instructors with a strong industry background.

After meeting the other CHE requirements, participants take an online examination on the following day of the workshop. Those who pass earn certification from the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute. The CHE designation recognises individuals who have demonstrated the qualities needed to become effective hospitality educators. It is prized by hospitality educators worldwide because it helps them to build a reputation for classroom excellence.

The SHTM is proud to have been associated with the American Hotel and Lodging Educational Institute since 2003 through its provision of CHE workshops.
