Assuming your degree awarding institution uses English as the medium of instruction, you are not required to submit an English test score. However, if your transcripts indicate there are courses taught in bilingual, you are expected to have a satisfactory English score to meet the requirements.

Local applicants who do not receive other forms of government scholarship including the CEF will be eligible for applying the Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme (the Fellowships Scheme) offered by the University Grants Committee (UGC). Tuition fees will be subsidised by the Fellowships subject to a cap of HK$120,000.

We do not have scholarships available for non-local students at the moment.

Local students/ applicants, for the purpose of admission to our programmes, are defined as holders of the following documents: HKID Card (Permanent), documents issued by the Immigration Department of the HKSAR showing right to land/ right of abode in Hong Kong, One-way Permit for entry to Hong Kong, full-time employment visa / work permit, visa/ entry permit for Quality Migrant Admission Scheme/ Capital Investment Entrant Scheme/ Admission Scheme for the Second Generation of Chinese Hong Kong Permanent Residents, and visa label for unconditional stay.

Non-locals have to be enrolled to full-time programmes to be eligible for applying student visas.

Classes are normally held during the daytime on weekdays. Full-time and part-time students follow the same timetable and attend classes together.

Postgraduate students are not eligible for Students Halls of Residence. They have to arrange their own accommodation. Given the central location of PolyU, students living off campus can still travel to the campus conveniently.

Admission places for each programme are limited; early applications to Early Round and Round 1 are advantaged.

You may apply even if you haven't received your final transcripts or certificates, but please indicate in your application the date on which they will be available.

A review cannot be made without a satisfactory English test score, and the decision to interview will be delayed.

Although not encouraged, you may submit another application under the same account after you have submitted one application.

The application fee for admission to Taught Postgraduate programmes for the September 2024 entry is HK$450. Your application will be further processed after the fee payment status is updated to "paid".

There are General and Specialism-specific Portfolio Requirements. Please refer to the Guidance Notes in e-Prospectus for details. 

IBD and TED accept a self-introduction presentation as a portfolio. Please refer to the Guidance Notes in e-Prospectus for details.

Once you submit your application, an application number and a bill number will be generated from eAdmission. Save these for your records and quote these number when requested, for example, settling the application fee or making an inquiry.

You may check the application and fee payment status on eAdmission. When the payment status changes to "paid", your application will be released to the School.

Although admission officers will notify applicants periodically if any required document is found missing, it is in applicants' own interest to ensure their application contains all required documents and the information entered is complete and accurate. They form the form the basis on which the application will be considered. Otherwise, the chances of admission may be affected, and any offer made will also be withdrawn if it is based on incomplete and inaccurate application data.

An initial screening of the applications will be conducted to prepare them for reviews. Applications that do not pass the screening may be rejected, and others are put on the "waiting list".

However, being "on the waiting list" does not mean an application is ready for review. There are multiple rounds of checking before an application is passed to the admission panel for consideration.

It will normally take 8-10 weeks for the Immigration Department of HKSAR to process your application, therefore, you should complete and return the student visa application form with all the required documents to us by express post as soon as possible after you have accepted our offer. Applicants are allowed to do so directly via eAdmission after application submission but before an application is put on the waiting list, applicable to sections of "Post-secondary Qualification", "English Exams", and "Employment".

For amending information, applicants can change submitted data, add new record but not delete submitted record. For submitting additional documents, applicants can add files (if not exceeding the maximum number of files) but cannot replace or delete files.

For "Additional Document (Mandatory)" and "Additional Document (Optional)” , applicants may add (if not exceeding the maximum number of file) or replace but cannot delete files. 

Please pay the non-refundable initial fees (see details in the debit note) and indicate your acceptance by clicking "Accept My Offer" on or before the payment deadline.

The only exception for refunding the Registration Fee is when applicants cannot meet the condition(s). The University will arrange a refund of the Registration Fee paid by cheque (in Hong Kong Dollars) on the condition that relevant supporting documents are submitted on or before the Meet Condition Deadline.

All fees paid will not be refunded except in the case of programme cancellation.

Tuition fees are calculated based on the number of credits required for graduation (36 credits for all MDes specialisms). The per-credit tuition for the 2024/25 academic year is HK$6,200 and the programme tuition fee is HK$223,200.

When budgeting your expenses, it is important to clarify your source of funding at an early stage and for the entire period of study. Also, consider to make your budget flexible by reserving a fund set aside for any unforeseen circumstances, such as possible fluctuations in currency value, price inflation, emergencies, travel, etc.

When applying for the student visa after obtaining an admission offer, you are required to produce a financial resource statement issued by your bank which proves the availability of enough funds to cover the tuition and living expenses for your first year of study in Hong Kong.

Non-local students holding a valid student visa are permitted to take up part-time on-campus employment for not more than 20 hours per week during the semester; and employment during the summer months (1 Jun to 30 Aug) without any limit in relation to nature of work, work hours and location. Please refer to "Letter of Application for Student Visa/Entry Permit" issued by the Immigration Department for details.

On-campus employment opportunities include Work-on-Campus Scheme managed PolyU Student Affairs Office and Research/ Project posts advertised on PolyU Human Resources Office website.

If you are staying in Hong Kong under the "Immigration Arrangements for Non-local Graduates" (IANG), you do not need to apply for a student visa to study in Hong Kong. But once your IANG expires, you will need to apply for a student visa. In both cases, you will be applying as non-locals.
