Summary
In the dynamic development of research in art and design, EnsadLab (the École des Arts Décoratifs laboratory, created in 2007) is a pioneer, with its SACRe doctoral program set up since 2012 as part of the Université Paris Sciences et Lettres. However, developing this kind of practice-based research, combined with artistic creation, requires constant innovation—whether in terms of projects, methodology or even institutions.
In this lecture, Prof. Samuel Bianchini will introduce EnsadLab and its ecosystem, followed by presenting several projects that exemplify the laboratory's approach and positioning to combine research and creation as closely as possible. He will also discuss how this work is shared and promoted—on a societal scale—the knowledge and artistic achievements produced within this framework.
Prof. Bianchini will further explain a field of research set up within his research group since 2012, which is the focus of a forthcoming book to be published by Spector Books at the end of the year: Behavioral Objects, Behavioral Matter – Rethinking Robotics Through Contemporary Art: An Atlas.
Finally, based on this project, Prof. Bianchini will share one of his current reflections on the need to rethink exhibition situations as platforms for public experimentation with audiences.
